Today was overwhelming--it started with a flight from SFO to JFK, then from JFK to CDG. I met up with the NYU group at JFK, and started talking to people. I met one girl I really like so far, and everyone else seems pretty nice. It's weird having to make friends all over again, and there are definitely a LOT of hipsters. I didn't sleep much on the flight to Paris because I slept so much on the first flight, so it's now 8:30 pm and I'm already exhausted. And feeling weird because I have eaten so much bread and cheese in various forms in the last 2 meals. Not used to it for sure.
We're staying at a youth hostel until Saturday, when we move into our housing assignments. Hopefully we get to see them/meet our landlords tomorrow night. There's just over 100 of us juniors and seniors here, and then 70 freshmen who are going to be on campus, and also 30 grad students. So we've taken over the hostel for now, which is actually pretty decent. Tomorrow orientation stuff begins, and hopefully I'll get a cellphone and get a little more settled. I just want to be in my real apartment already! The neighborhood the hostel is in is pretty far and doesn't FEEL very Parisian, so it hasn't really sunk in yet. I have to take a placement test on Friday, and then the 2-week language intensive class starts on Tuesday. Classes don't start until SEPT 20!
